Understanding Lower Back Complexities and Injury Management
Lower Back Care

The lower back (lumbar spine) serves as the bridge between your upper and lower body. With all sporting and exercise endeavours, force is required to transfer up and down the kinetic chain through this vital point.
The lower back is comprised of 5 bones and their associated discs. Each bone is connected to the adjacent bones by joints that have ligaments, cartilage and capsule. The lower back is also home to the spinal cord and the nerves that travel from this region down through our legs and all the way to our toes.
Due to many different reasons, the lower back may experience injury to any of these structures. Sometimes, this is due to an accident in the gym. Other times, it gradually builds up until it gets in the way of your quality of life. Either way, lower back pain can seriously get in the way of your sports, exercise and life goals.
Our approach to managing lower back pain at Top Performance Physio Chatswood is holistic, as we endeavour to address the lower back itself, as well as the biomechanical contributing factors that could be further compounding the condition. We then aid in transitioning you back to your chosen activity or sport.
